Advanced Tortuga Rules available

Tortuga-BoxWe’ve just been given the thumbs up to post our advanced rules to our game, Tortuga from Queen Games.

The advanced rules use the same components (less actually!) and provide some ways to mitigate some of the luck and add some more strategic decisions.

Now you can sacrifice any die to place it on any Icon – but at a value of 1. While this might seem weird to do – we’ve also changed how you resolve each Icon. Now – everyone who places at least 1 die on boats, crew and treasure will get some benefit! That makes those sacrificed dice with a value of 1 pretty valuable. Now if you really need crew – you can always get at least 1 crew in a turn.

So if you have Tortuga already, please give these new advanced rules a try and let us know your thoughts.

Tortuga review by Contest Winner!

Tortuga-BoxThis is nice to read! One of the winners of the Tortuga contest that Queen ran during the Kickstarter campaign decided to write up a quick review about Tortuga. He really liked the game and had some nice things to say about it:

“There is a lot to like here.”

“Heavy, sturdy, colourful and easy to navigate components.”

“I found some nice strategy in the treasure chest movement.”

“The game’s length is perfect for what it is and it is a really fun, quick game.”

Thanks to Jacob Lee for the nice review! You can read his entire review here.

Tortuga Featured in Jem Webmagazine

Jem, a Hungarian webmag, features our latest game from Queen, Tortuga, in big, bold, lettering at the top of their cover.  Here’s a bunch of screenshots of their article on the game.  Any Hungarian-speaking reader out there give us a quick translation?

Hey!  It seems it got picked up by Piatnik?!  Interesting!

First English review of Tortuga washes ashore!

Tor-sample5The Piemaster, as he’s known on boardgamegeek.com, has provided his thoughts to the world about our new game Tortuga! Overall he was pleased with the game! Here’s my favourite quote:

I was pleasantly surprised with how well Tortuga played. We all were in fact, and one of our play group decided to buy it the following day. It is fairly cheap, quick and easy to play, entertaining throughout and deceptively strategic.

Yay! Thanks Piemaster for reviewing the game! Here’s hoping we get enough interest in the game so we can release some expansions to increase the depth even more for those that want it!!

Tortuga Appears in The Week (and also the link to the official product webpage!)

tortuga in the weekThe cover for our latest release from Queen Games, Tortuga, was used in the week’s issue of the British magazine, The Week, as the image next to the text:

“Despite the continued popularity of video games, sales of board games in the United States rose 15 to 20 percent in each of the last three years.  And more titles may be on the way.  On the crowdfunding site Kickstarter, board game startups raised $52.1 million in 2013, compared with $45.3 million in funding for video games.  The New York Times

Tortuga enjoyed a successful Kickstarter campaign and we’re proud that our game has been linked with the resurgence of table top gaming.   Thanks to all of the people who supported the campaign and who have bought the game since.  And if you haven’t bought it yet?  Yaaar!  We’ll make you walk the plank, matey!

Land Ho!

The European Kickstarter supporters are starting to receive their copies of our game Tortuga!

I’ve personally never looked back at any old Kickstarter Threads -Jay and I are not the creators of the project, so I’m not aware of the chatter that occurs after funding.  So today was the first time I’ve ever went back to read an old KS comment page and it’s nice to see people receiving the projects they pledged for and hopefully we’ll start hearing reactions soon.

If you still haven’t got your copy yet (Thanks again for your support!), here’s some pics to tide you over!  Thanks to the Daily Aviator (www.dailyaviator.net) for taking some shots of the base games and the current expansions!

More Pics from the Gathering of Friends 2014

Here are some more pictures, this time from my POV!

This is series on game design in 3 parts:  Feedback / Revise and Playtest / Pitch

Josh, Jay and show Zev and JF from Filosofia/Z-man the reworked “Rock, Paper, Wizards” game.  After getting some great feedback from them, it was back to the lab to tweak things here and there.

Below, we’re playtesting the revamped game with fellow Game Artisans of Canada colleagues, Martin Ethier and Al Leduc.

And finally, once we’ve ironed out most of the kinks in the game, we repitch the game to Zev (Z-Man) – this time, with the help of our pro-players, Aldie and Licoln (Boardgame Geek), Nikki (Queen Games), and Stephen Buonocore (Stronghold Games)

Both our Kickstartered Games have been successfully kickstarted!

ThisTown-logoYay and thanks to everyone who supported in whatever way you could for getting both Tortuga and This Town Ain’t Big Enough for the 2-4 of Us funded! It was a fun ride – especially the last day for This Town Ain’t Big Enough for the 2-4 of Us as we had a swell of comments and engagement from our backers! In fact, we had more comments on the final 2 days than we did over the rest of the entire campaign! Wow!

Here are some stats:

How much funds we brought in each day for This Town Ain't Big Enough for the 2-4 of Us

How much funds we brought in each day for This Town Ain’t Big Enough for the 2-4 of Us

How many backers we had for This Town Ain't Big Enough for the 2-4 of Us

How many backers we had for This Town Ain’t Big Enough for the 2-4 of Us

How many comments we had per day for This Town Ain't Big Enough for the 2-4 of Us

How many comments we had per day for This Town Ain’t Big Enough for the 2-4 of Us

The last day was only an hour or so – so you could really combine those last 2 columns into the same day! Note that while we had more funds raised on the last day than the previous day – we had almost the same number of backers – which means that existing backers raised their pledge level – awesome! So the game is funded – 601% of our initial target, so that’s fantastic! In the future the game will only be available on the TMG website (Tasty Minstrel Games). But it’s cool to know that at least 4687 people will be playing this game in a few months!!

Let’s compare to our other game, Tortuga:

Funds per day for Tortuga

Funds per day for Tortuga

Backers per day for Tortuga

Backers per day for Tortuga

Comments per day for Tortuga

Comments per day for Tortuga

Tortuga-BoxScreenshot 2014-01-30 08.08.40It’s definitely saddening to see so many people back out of their pledge throughout the campaign. I believe it had nothing to do with the game but some people didn’t feel like the stretch goals were enticing enough (though I think the extra island is pretty darned cool!) and some people were turned off from the fact that the game was already available for pre-order elsewhere. Oh well – we still hit 284% of our target and the game is coming out! Once it comes out – all these negatives will hopefully be forgotten as the focus then shifts to the actual gameplay.

So an exciting couple of weeks for the Bamboozle Brothers. We’ll be back on the Kickstarter bandwagon in a month or two when our next game, But Wait There’s More starts its campaign from Toy Vault! That should be a lot of fun because the game has the Monty Python license attached to it!! Wow! Stay tuned for all those details. And thanks again for those that backed either or both of our recent games on Kickstarter!!

-Jay

Finally – English Rules are posted for our new game Tortuga!

Queen had the German rules posted for awhile but have now posted the English rules to our new game, Tortuga! So if you’ve been on the fence about backing this game on Kickstarter – well, now you can read more about it to see if it’s your jug o’ rum!

Check out the rules on the Kickstarter Update page – and help us get that last stretch goal of 6 more treasure tokens! Less than $1000 to go!!!!!
